Closing of Family Shoes marks the end of an era in Monroe

Decades ago, families descended upon Family Shoes at Chuck’s Corner, 150 Main St. in Monroe, before the new school year as shoppers bought shoes and sneakers for classes and cleats for the upcoming baseball and football seasons. The store also bustled with activity before Easter. Three stars from Masuk’s softball team sign national letters of intent

MONROE, CT — Three leaders of Masuk High School’s elite softball program signed national letters of intent to continue playing the sport in college during a ceremony inside the school library Wednesday afternoon. Julia Bacoulis will go to Florida Gulf Coast University, Alyssa Castillo will play at the University of Bridgeport, and Sofia Lieto has committed to play at Providence College.
