MONROE, CT — With one meet under its belt the Masuk High boys swim team turned its attention to a lengthy stretch of practice time as the Panthers dive in for regular, weekly competition.
Masuk defeated visiting Newtown 92-82 on Dec. 19 and next hits the pool for a Tuesday, Jan. 7, visit to Brookfield at 4 p.m.
In the season-opening win the Panthers started things out with a win in the 200 yard medley relay race and kept rolling.
Brendan Kirberger won the 200 yard freestyle race in 1:54.12. Mason Eanotti took first in the 200 individual medley event in 2:08.85. Adragna Carter and Will Hardy gave Masuk a one-two finish in the 50 free with times of 22.03 and 24.75.
Mert Baykus won the 100 butterfly in 58.51. Kirberger was first in the 500 in a time of 4:54.95. Eanotti and Hardy were one-two in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:00.79 and 1:02.31. Carter Adragna won the 100 breaststroke race in 1:04.07. Masuk exhibitioned the 400 yard relay race.
The Panthers have a new coaching staff and Coach Jenna Manion liking what she sees thus far.
“They had great sportsmanship, great times and great athleticism,” Manion said.
Masuk, after the Brookfield meet, hosts New Fairfield Jan. 14 at 4.
