MONROE, Conn. — A 19-year-old Seymour woman called her friends for help after crashing a Subaru Outback into a utility pole in front of a residential property on Stanley Road early Sunday morning, only for them to crash into her Subaru after arriving at the scene in a Mercedes, according to police.
At approximately 3:09 a.m., officers responding to the call found the Subaru with heavy front-end damage. It appeared to have struck the pole and was perpendicular to the roadway, blocking the west travel lane on Judd Road, police said.
Officers found open alcoholic beverages and a cellphone inside the Subaru, both airbags were deployed and there were blood stains, but no driver, the report said.
The driver of the Subaru was found sitting in a white Mercedes nearby with heavy front-end and driver’s side damage. The Seymour woman had several facial injuries and was bleeding, police said, adding she was treated by Monroe Emergency Medical Service personnel and taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further treatment.
A passenger in the Mercedes, an 18-year-old Trumbull woman, told officers she received a call from her friend, saying she was involved in an accident and needed help.
The driver of the Mercedes, an 18-year-old Seymour woman, raced to the scene and was coming down Hiram Hill Road, when she said she observed another vehicle heading west on Judd Road passing the Subaru. After turning right onto Judd in her Mercedes, she told police she swerved to avoid hitting the other vehicle, but wound up crashing into her friend’s Subaru.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crashes.
Town firefighters also responded to the emergency call.
