One hospitalized in three-vehicle-crash on Hattertown Road Saturday

One driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on Hattertown Road, near the intersection of Huntingtown Road, Saturday afternoon.

Police said Adam Catropa, 40, of Greenwood Lane in Monroe, was driving east in a Ford Explorer just before 1:30 p.m., when his vehicle drifted to the left and crossed the double yellow center line, before hitting a Lexus RX 330 in the other lane.

Stephanie Schubert, 25, of Ashbrook Court in Leland, N.C., who was driving behind the Lexus in a 2017 Volkswagen Passat, swerved to avoid the Explorer, but was sideswiped in the rear, left side of her vehicle, according to police.

An ambulance took the driver of the Lexus, Peroy Robinson, 65, of Capitol Ave. in Bridgeport, to the hospital, but the other drivers reported no injuries, police said.

Police said Catropa told officers he believes he crossed into the other lane because of speed and negotiating a curve. He was issued an infraction for failure to maintain his lane.

All three damaged vehicles were towed. Police reopened the road to traffic at 2:22 p.m.
