Monroe Police: Driver hit a fire hydrant, a mailbox in rollover crash

MONROE, CT — An 89-year-old Newtown man told officers he was drowsy and fell asleep, before being involved in a rollover crash in his 2023 Toyota RAV4 in the 25-block of Route 59 Friday morning. Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel took him to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, according to police. Retail building proposed at former hot dog stand site at 685 Main St.

MONROE, CT — A developer plans to build a new 7,500-square-foot retail building at 685 Main St., near Northbrook Condominiums. A hot dog stand that used to be on the property had been torn down years ago. The one-acre-lot was changed from a Residential Farming zone to a Business-1 zone a few months ago, so a retail use is permitted on the site, which can handle 38 parking spaces, according to the application.
