Celebration of Reading promotes critical thinking in Monroe’s elementary schools

MONROE, CT — Monroe’s three elementary schools were full of excited guest readers Monday morning, marking the district’s annual Celebration of Reading. Organized by the Monroe Schools Parents Council and sponsored by The Rotary Club of Monroe, each of the 74 grades K-5 classrooms received a new hardcover children’s book that was read to them by local volunteers. NEWTOWN, CT — Masuk High’s softball team, sparked by an early start at the plate, defeated host Newtown 7-1 on Friday. With the win the Panthers improved to 15-0. Masuk scored twice in the first inning and three more times in the second before capping its scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth.
