Irene Rancourt devoted much of her time to Monroe, loved her family

Irene F. Rancourt

Irene F. Rancourt, 95, a longtime Monroe resident, entered into eternal rest at her home with her children by her side. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Frank (Macijewski) Macey and Helen Tadeusiak. She graduated from Bassick High School in 1947.

After graduation she went to work for the Southern Connecticut Gas Company where she made friends with her future sister-in-law. In 1950 she married Kenneth Rancourt, started a family and was a homemaker for many years.

While her children were in school, Irene was very active in the Monroe Scholarship Fund and many PTA’s in Monroe. When her children were older she worked in the Monroe Elementary/Chalk Hill Middle School cafeterias and volunteered in the Chalk Hill Library. Later in life she worked for Village Square Pharmacy and for many years with Colonial Cleaners in Monroe and Shelton.

Irene was a member of American Legion Post 176 in Monroe and had served as their Vice President for a while.

Irene loved collecting and her collections were varied. She collected baskets, Boyd’s Bears, Oil and Vinegar cruets, Heisey glass, Depression glass, Pyrex dishes and many books. She was an avid reader with Michael Connolly and David Baldacci as her favorites. She also loved watching Blue Bloods and the Chicago Trilogy on Wednesday nights. She never missed an episode.

Irene is survived by five of her children, Kenneth (Jane) of Center Conway, N.H., Michael (Barbara) of Pownal, Vt., Jan (David) of Sandy Hook, Paul of Conway, N.H., and Dr. Norman (Heather) of Monroe.

Her greatest pleasure came from watching her grandchildren (Jessica, Jan-Marie, Andy, Jordan, Janelle, Rebecca, Lauren and Madison) and great-grandchildren (Macey, Jackson, Hunter and Hayden) grow into wonderful individuals.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Ken in 2017 and son James in 2018.
