MONROE, Conn. — Five people were hospitalized following a three-vehicle-crash at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Route 110 on Monday evening. Police Chief Keith White said he believes the injuries were not life threatening.
According to a preliminary investigation, police determined a vehicle that was heading north on Wheeler Road around 6:15 p.m. failed to stop for the stop sign and entered the intersection, before being struck by a vehicle traveling on Route 110. Then a second vehicle on 110 was hit.
“A total of three drivers and three passengers were involved in the crash,” White said. “The occupants of one vehicle were extricated by the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.”
A detour was set up for several hours before the scene was cleared. Police have no additional updates at this time.
Shoplifting at Dollar General
The manager of Dollar General, 685 Main St., reported the theft of a cart full of items Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:54 p.m., police said the store employee was at the register when she heard the alarm sounding. She discovered it was coming from the rear door and made her way to the back of the store.
She opened door, but didn’t see anyone in the area. However, a review of surveillance video showed someone walking out the door with a shopping cart full of items, according to police.
Police said video from an interior camera showed a male enter the store through the front door, grab a shopping cart and load it with several items, including packages of diapers, baby formula, hygiene products and Tide pods. Then he pushed the cart out the back door, triggering the alarm.
The employee did not see the direction the suspect went.
Dollar General’s employees are doing an inventory of what was stolen and the matter is under investigation.
