Governor schedules special election following Kelly’s resignation

MONROE, CT — State Sen. Kevin Kelly, R-21st, did not take the oath of office for a new term, because Gov. Ned Lamont will reportedly nominate him for a Superior Court judgeship, setting the stage for a special election to fill his vacancy. The 21st District represents Shelton, most of Stratford and parts of Monroe and Seymour. The special election is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25, Lamont announced. Eden Florist opens shop at Crescent Village in Monroe

MONROE, CT — Douglas Sawyer stood behind the counter, while preparing a floral arrangement for a customer inside Eden Florist, a flower shop he and his fiancée, Donna Parrillo, opened at Crescent Village, 115 Main St., Thursday. South West United girls hockey team battles opponents

SHELTON, CT — The South West United girls hockey team, comprising of players from Masuk and other area high schools, has had some close games this winter. The team skated to a 1-0 win over Guilford at home, at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, on Dec. 23. Francesca Buccieri scored and goaltenders Jen Velky and Arianna Bartolomei combined for the shutout. SWU out shot Guilford 27 to 12.
