Thief drives off with Jeep Wrangler, vehicles entered

MONROE, CT — A Jeep Wrangler, left unlocked with the keys inside, was reported stolen from a driveway on Oak Ridge Drive Sunday.

Police said the owner parked his Jeep at 10:30 p.m. the night before and left overnight. He discovered the theft when he came back the next day.

Vehicles entered on Wheeler Road

Someone found a backpack with miscellaneous items scattered on the side of Wheeler Road Friday. Based on its contents, police learned it belonged to a resident who lived on the same road.

Police said it was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in the driveway, where another unlocked vehicle was also entered and $50 cash was taken.

An unlucky deer

A deer died after being hit by two vehicles on Hattertown Road Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 2:26 p.m., police said a Monroe man heading east in his Toyota Prius struck the deer, who ended up in the other lane, where it was hit by a New York City woman heading west in a Ford F150.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated both drivers for injuries, police said, adding both refused rides to a hospital.
