MONROE, CT — A female died in a house fire on Fox Run early Thursday morning.

Monroe Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Catalano said neighbors alerted the Monroe, Stepney and Stevenson fire companies of the blaze just before 1 a.m., and that the home was engulfed in flames, through the roof, when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim,” Catalano said in a post on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 Facebook page. “The Monroe and State Police Fire Marshals and Monroe PD are investigating the cause.”

While fighting the fire, firefighters located an adult female who had perished inside the home. There were no other civilian or firefighter injuries, according to Catalano.

Town firefighters received assistance at the scene from Botsford Fire Rescue and Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Inc., and extinguished the majority of the fire within 25 minutes.

The White Hills Fire Company in Shelton provided station coverage and the Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service provided support. Crews are remaining on scene throughout Thursday morning.
