Police Reports: Crash on Wheeler, water leak at Monroe Elementary, online fraud

MONROE, CT — Police are investigating the cause of a one-car-crash in the 600-block of Wheeler Road late Thursday night.

The driver of a blue 2020 Tesla Model Y lost control of the vehicle and struck a stonewall around 10:20 p.m., according to police.

Firefighters also responded to the call. Police said there was no fluid leak.

The driver declined a trip to the hospital and Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated an infant that was in the car. Police said the baby was okay.

Sprinkler leak at Monroe Elementary School

Two fire alarms sounded at Monroe Elementary School, 375 Monroe Turnpike, at 1:31 a.m. Thursday morning. Firefighters noticed a leak from a sprinkler that had triggered the alarms, according to police.

The building maintainer for the Board of Education arrived 30 minutes later to secure the leak, police said, adding the damage did not appear to be extensive.

Over $4,000 stolen in online fraud

A 38-year-old Monroe man told police his Google email and Voice accounts were compromised and an identity thief used information to steal over $4,000.

Wire transfers for $1,000 and $1,100 were made, though the victim managed to stop payment on the $1,000 transaction, police said, adding there was another $3,200 loss from the resident’s bank account.

Police detectives are investigating the complaint, which was made Wednesday.
