Police Reports: Crash into tree leads to DUI, golf course vandals

MONROE, CT — A Monroe driver was charged with DUI after crashing his 2018 BMW 330XI into a tree on Stanley Road Saturday night.

Joshua Nascimento, 25, of Holly Place, was also charged with evading responsibility with property damage and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond for a March 22 court date.

At approximately 10 p.m., Police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a tree in the 10-block of Stanley Road and continuing north.

Officers responding to the call found the vehicle, occupied by two males, in the 150-block of Stanley Road. Neither were injured, according to the report.

Police said the driver, Nascimento, told officers he was returning from a friend’s house when he struck the tree. Police also said he admitted to drinking alcohol and field sobriety tests showed he was under the influence.

Golf course vandals

An employee of Whitney Farms Golf Course told police golf carts were taken out and driven improperly, causing an estimated $1,000 worth of damage to holes 5, 6 and 7, before the carts were returned.

The golf course does not know who took the carts and caused the damage, according to the complaint filed Saturday morning.
