Monroe Chamber golf tournament raises $5,000 for The Wolfe’s Den

Eighty golfers rev their engines for the start of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce's annual golf tournament at Whitney Farms Golf Course.

MONROE, CT — The Monroe Chamber of Commerce presented a $5,000 check to The Monroe Playground Foundation for the new Wolfe’s Den playground at Wolfe Park. The money is from the proceeds of its annual golf tournament, held at Whitney Farms Golf Course on June 1.

Lee Hossler, left, and Ray Giovanni, president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, present a $5,000 check to Dan Keene, right, chairman of the Monroe Playground Foundation on June 1.

“This year we had the most players ever for our annual tournament, 80 golfers,” said Ray Giovanni, president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. “We are very pleased that Jim Weinberg, managing director of Clarksons Platou, chose to be our ‘title sponsor’ this year and thank him for his support — and a big thanks to all the tee sign sponsors for their support to make our tournament a great success.”

Dan Keene, chairman of the Monroe Playground Foundation, accepted the check on the nonprofit’s behalf.

The foundation led efforts to raise money for a new playground to replace the old wooden Kids Kreations playground at Wolfe Park. Volunteers recently completed a community build.
