Masuk volleyball team earns its first victory, 3-0 over Bunnell

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s girls’ volleyball team earned its first win of the season, blanking visiting Bunnell of Stratford 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-14)

on Sept. 22.

Middle hitter Kailey Kusick had 3 aces, 11 kills and 2 blocks to lead the way.

“It was a morale booster for them. They needed to see they could put a W on the record,” Masuk Coach Carol Ortiz said.

The rebuilding Panthers had dropped five matches, all by 3-0 scores, against strong opponents to begin the season.

“Rebuilding is always challenging. I’m hoping things start clicking together soon,” said Ortiz, whose team dropped a four-game match at Newtown on Sept. 24.

Masuk played four matches in eight days culminating with the Newtown match. The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at New Milford at 5:30 p.m.
