MONROE, CT — Snow and rain during the day followed by high winds Sunday night took down trees and branches leading to power outages for 3,349 or 40.73 percent of Eversource customers in Monroe by 10:38 p.m., according to the company’s outage map.
In a Facebook post earlier Sunday, Monroe Police wrote:
The ice encrusted trees has resulted in multiple limbs coming down throughout town. This has caused several small pockets of power outages. Eversource has confirmed they have crews in town and additional ones being assigned. They will remain in town throughout the event.
The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department posted a photo of a power line fire on Moose Hill Road, near Cross Hill Road, taken at 3:15 p.m., on its Facebook page (it is the lead photo of this article). The post’s message said, “It’s been a long day.”
First Selectman Terry Rooney has been updating residents about road conditions, outages and communications with Eversource throughout the day on the Town of Monroe Facebook page.
