Masuk grapplers place five in SWC Championships

NEW FAIRFIELD, CT — Masuk High’s wrestling team had a nice showing at the South-West Conference Tournament with five place winners as the team came in sixth overall.

Masuk scored 94.5 points behind a runner-up finish from Luke Longo in the 165 pound weight division, a trio of third-place results and a fourth-place finish.

Longo worked his way to the finals capped by a 20-5 technical fall victory over his counterpart from Stratford in the semis. Longo, the No. 2 seed, was defeated by top seed Marc Maurath from team champ Newtown in the finals.

Dominic Smeraglino came in third at 106, Anthony King placed third at 113 and Dylahn Perez placed third at 144. Griffin Allen took fourth in the 126 pound weight division.

Smeraglino earned a 13-10 decision over Weston in the third-place bout. King won his third-place match with a 15-2 major decision over Pomperaug. Perez pinned his New Fairfield opponent to place third.
