MONROE, CT — Pat Crowell and his son Lucas, 17, are dealing with the aftermath of the tragic loss of their loved ones, mother and son, Connie and Jack, 22, who died Friday. They were found inside Connie’s SUV, which was submerged in the Housatonic River, off Route 34 in Seymour.

Visitors to the Jack & Connie Crowell Memorial & Scholarship Fund page on GoFundMe are rallying behind the grieving Monroe family by making donations to help pay for funeral expenses — and for Lucas’ education with any left over funds.

The page was started by husband and wife, Guy and Michelle Mazzola, president and vice president of AMEC, a Norwalk based company, where Pat works as a geotechnical engineer.

The page was set up on Sunday. As of 7:45 p.m. on Monday, it received 134 donations, raising $17,950 of the $30,000 goal.

“I couldn’t ever picture having to live through something like this and be able to handle, not only the emotional and visceral reaction, but the financial impact as well,” Michelle Mazzola said. “We know this won’t bring them back, but if we can do anything to help them move forward and enrich Lucas’ life, we want to do that.”

Mazzola said it is a particularly difficult time for Pat Crowell, who had just attended his mother’s funeral on Friday.

Mazzola said she and her husband are close to Pat, who they’ve known for about 15 years, adding he has worked for them for close to six. She describes him as “super nice, down to earth and a good person.”

“He’s one of the very known geotechnical engineers in our industry,” Mazzola said.

Amid difficult economic times, Mazzola said she understands if some may not be able to make a donation, but she encourages them to share the GoFundMe page on social media, so it reaches more people.
