Bicentennial Celebration: Beatles songs, food trucks and fireworks

The Bicentennial Store is in the Town Clerk's Office at Monroe Town Hall and at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library during the week.

MONROE, CT — Families will enjoy food trucks and take in a live concert by Ticket to Ride, a Beatles tribute band, at Wolfe Park on Friday, Aug. 4, in a Bicentennial celebration topped off with a fireworks display.

“Thank you to all of our sponsors for making this event possible,” First Selectman Ken Kellogg said. “The rain date for fireworks and the concert only is Saturday, August 5th starting at 7 p.m.”

Following is the schedule of the day’s events:

4:30 p.m.: Shuttles begin departing from Masuk High School for Wolfe Park. Parking at the park will be limited to only those with handicapped placards. Shuttles will depart every 15 minutes to allow residents and their guests ample time to arrive on the park grounds. Guests should bring their own chairs.

At this time the local traffic plan is put in place. Cutlers Farm Road will be restricted to one lane travel only between Purdy Hill Road and Bug Hill Road. Click here for more information. Drop offs will be permitted at Wolfe Park but those dropping off must depart southbound on Cutlers Farm Road only from Wolfe Park.

This traffic plan will remain in place until the last shuttle bus departs Wolfe Park at the conclusion of the event.

Police recently issued another advisory on parking.

5 p.m.: Food trucks arrive at Wolfe Park. Offerings will include: Donut Crazy, Fryborg, Jim’s Ice Cream Truck, Fiesta Taco Truck (Vazzy’s/Monroe), DrewBaQ and the Planet Pizza Mobile Truck.

Guests may also bring their own food and beverages to the event.

Portapotties will be available as well as the bathrooms at the pool house.

5 p.m.: The Bicentennial Store will be open offering t-shirts for adults and children, double-wall tumblers, tote bags, hats and the collectible pewter ornament keepsake. Cash or check only for the store. Visit monroebicentennial.org for details on parking, shuttles and schedule information.

7 p.m.: The Ticket to Ride concert begins on the Wolfe Park stage

8:45 p.m./dusk: The fireworks display by Blue Sky Fireworks begins
