MONROE, CT — Monroe first selectman candidate, Leon Ambrosey, was all smiles while mingling with supporters at the Monroe Democratic Town Committee’s Meet the Candidates Picnic at Wolfe Park on Saturday, an event featuring appearances by U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, and Jimmy Tickey, vice chair of the Connecticut Democratic Party.
Ambrosey, who recently had surgery, is back on the campaign trail and will face incumbent Republican, Terry Rooney, in a League of Women Voters debate at Jockey Hollow Middle School Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
“I think the momentum is on our side,” Ambrosey said Saturday. “I’m getting a lot of positive feedback. Some people went up to me today and said, ‘I’m already going to vote for you, but I just wanted to meet you.'”

Monroe DTC Chair Chrissy Martinez said a company was hired to send text messages to voters about Ambrosey’s campaign.
“I’m getting a lot of positive feedback,” Ambrosey said of the more than 200 responses.
His campaign is advocating for more investment in the town’s school infrastructure amid growing enrollment and more long term planning for the maintenance of Monroe’s roads and drainage. Ambrosey contends that “kicking the can down the road” will only make these problems costlier.
Lawn signs for Democratic Party candidates running in Monroe’s municipal election were displayed on the lawn around a pavilion at Wolfe Park Saturday, when visitors talked to those running for office over slices of pizza.
Blumenthal spoke optimistically of how more Connecticut municipalities are voting blue, while expressing confidence that Ambrosey will win the election in Monroe. He also gave an update on the federal government shutdown.
Tickey urged all Democrats to support their local candidates by making phone calls, putting up signs and getting out the vote.
