What’s happening in Monroe this week?

The following events are happening in Monroe from Wednesday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 6. 

Wednesday, Oct. 2:

Coffee With A Cop at Mr. Mac’s Canteen
838 Main Street, Monroe
Officers from Monroe Police Department and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.  All community members are invited to attend. 

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Big Truck Day at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library
733 Monroe Tpke, Monroe
All Ages.  See, touch, and climb inside all sorts of big trucks in the back library parking lot, then come into the library for a truck-related craft.  Rain or shine. Registration is not required. Location: Ehlers Meeting Room

Long-Term Care Presentation at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Long-Term Care: What is it?  What would trigger a long-term care event? How do you plan for it? Paul Collard of New York Life Insurance will be here to discuss Long-Term Care, its emotional and financial impact on families, and what we can do to better plan for these events.  Bring your questions – there will be a Q&A after the presentation! Ages 3-5.  Stop by for a program of learning and exploration.  We’ll practice the skills needed for Kindergarten while learning about a variety of topics through stories, socializing, exploring, creating, and having fun.  Registration is not required. Location: Children’s Story Room

Yoga For Adults at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Adults, come to these sessions and learn the basics of yoga. Bring a yoga mat and a water bottle. Wear appropriate workout wear (comfortable but not restricting). Class is limited to 25 people.  Attendance is first come, first served. Location: Ehlers Meeting Room

Tony Arnold Exhibit Opening at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Anthony Arnold’s artwork “Beauty in Color” is influenced from his experience as a Vietnam Veteran. After his military service, he only saw the world in black and white and was unable to find beauty in the world. After many years, Anthony rediscovered his artistic ability and the beauty in life when he began attending an art group for Veterans called, Art of the Brave at the VA in West Haven. Through his art, he was able to tear down the wall, rediscover his strengths, and find beauty and color in the world.  Location: Ehlers Meeting Room

Outdoor Pickleball at Wolfe Park Tennis Courts

Bring your own paddle and ball to play some pick-up games with others looking for a game.  Free program. No registration required.

Open House & Touch A Truck at Monroe Volunteer Fire Department

11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cruisin Classic Car Show at Mr. Mac’s
838 Main Street, Monroe
All vehicles welcome.  Free coffee and drinks to participants.  Trophies, family fun and oldies music. Mr. Mac’s food truck.
