Volleyball team pushes New Canaan in setback, Masuk baseball falls

NEW CANAAN, CT — Masuk High’s boys volleyball team saw its successful season, one that saw the Panthers reach the SWC championship match, come to an end in a visit to New Canaan in the Class M State Tournament quarterfinal round on Friday.

The No. 3 Rams advanced to the semis with a 3-0 victory over the No. 6 Panthers, but Masuk certainly put up a fight. The game scores were 30-28, 25-22, 25-17.

Nate McCauley had 13 kills and five digs. Ryan Barringer logged eight kills. Nathan Kurkoski had eight digs and 22 assists. Jacob Moreno had five digs. Ethan Rentz recorded three digs.

In other state playoff action, on May 31, Masuk’s baseball team was beaten by Guilford in the Class L first round. Masuk was the No. 17 seed and Guilford the No. 16.
