MONROE, Conn. — VFW Post 10059 and American Legion members will march in the Monroe Memorial Day Parade this Sunday, May 24, after participating in a ceremony at Monroe Elementary School.
The ceremony will begin at noon, starting with a welcome and opening comments. The event will feature readings of the poems, “In Flanders Field” and “We Shall Keep The Faith.”
Everyone gathered will remember Monroe’s fallen and Bill Ayles will talk about his father.
First Selectman Terry Rooney and other town officials are expected to be present during the ceremony. “Taps” will be played.
Immediately following the ceremony members will assemble to march in the parade, which begins on Monroe Turnpike at 1 p.m.
A $100k donation for Veterans & First Responders Center
The new Veterans & First Responders Center is about to become a reality with the formal signing of a contract and construction of the new building at 1 Veterans Circle in Trumbull about to begin.
Leonard DiNardo made a donation towards the completion of the center at VFW Post 10059’s May 14 meeting, when he presented a $100,000 check to the VFW and American Legion Commanders. A large gathering room inside the new building will be sponsored by the Dinardo-Aiello Family Foundation.
DiNardo is a principal at Peter DiNardo Enterprises, a third-generation real estate investment, development and property management company, which offers full in-house services to commercial tenants throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties and has worked with many municipalities over the last 50 years.
The Dinardo-Aiello Family Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to supporting a variety of charitable causes. The foundation supports initiatives addressing food insecurity and mental health, as well as helping veterans. It also places emphasis on providing funding to hospitals, educational institutions and community organizations.
