Two Town Council candidates tie, leading to recanvassing of Monroe’s election results

Cathy Kohut, left, and Janice Persico are two Democrats who ended Election Night in a tie for the last seat on the Monroe Town Council, kicking off a mandatory recanvassing Monday.

MONROE, CT — Unofficial municipal election results from the Registrars Office shows a tie vote between two Democrats vying for a seat on the Town Council, setting a mandatory recanvassing of the entire election results in motion.

Janice Persico and Cathy Kohut are currently deadlocked at 2,721 votes each. Though a full recount is necessary, it is not expected to change the final outcome in any of the other races.

The recanvassing will take place at Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monday morning at 9 a.m.  It is open to the public.
