Transformer, live wires fall on Toyota RAV4 after crash in Monroe

This photo, posted on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page, shows an Eversource crew responding to a crash on Turkey Roost Road Tuesday, in which wires and a transformer fell on a Toyota RAV4.

MONROE, CT — Police had to call Eversource to shut off the power, so firefighters could extricate a driver from her 2023 Toyota RAV4 Tuesday afternoon, after she struck a utility pole on Turkey Roost Road, snapping it in half. The top half fell onto her vehicle, along with live wires and a transformer, according to the report.

Police said the 30-year-old Bridgeport woman was heading west on Turkey Roost, east of Lynn Drive, when her vehicle veered off the right side of the road, struck the pole and spun clockwise before coming to rest in the middle of the road at approximately 2:23 p.m.

Police said the woman told officers she didn’t remember what happened. She was treated for injuries by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel at the scene and taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further treatment. Her damaged SUV was towed.

She was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

According to a post on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, Inc., Facebook page, the road remained closed to allow crews to restore power.
