MONROE, CT — The Monroe Sun won first place in the Business category in the 2024 Society of Professional Journalists Connecticut Chapter’s Excellence in Journalism awards contest for Division C.
An awards ceremony for news organizations, including newspapers, online publications, radio and TV, was held at Race Brook Country Club in Orange Wednesday night.
The Sun won an award for its article chronicling the impact of last summer’s floods on local businesses. The top three stories for Division C, which includes smaller publications, were:
First Place, Monroe businesses grapple with costly flood damage, lost revenue; The Monroe Sun; Bill Bittar
Second Place, CT campgrounds becoming more popular, with options to fit any budget; The Register Citizen; Emily Olson
Third Place, Should town step back from closing off Church Lane?; Westport Journal; Gretchen Webster
