MONROE, Conn. — Teamwork and a sense of community were on full display this spring in the gyms of Monroe’s elementary schools. Stepney, Fawn Hollow and Monroe Elementary continued the district’s commitment to the Unified Sports Program, inviting students, regardless of athletic abilities, to learn, grow and build lasting connections with their peers.
The eight-week program provided opportunities to participate in a variety of activities including basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The season’s culminating event took place at Masuk High School on April 29.
Led by a dedicated coaching staff, Suzanne Cassone (Stepney), Jenna Rice (Fawn Hollow) and Meagan Emerson (Monroe Elementary) and assisted by additional district staff, the students learned more than just athletic skills; they learned to strengthen a school culture rooted in inclusion and team spirit.
