Storm Update: Rain and wind took down trees, debris on 19 roads

A tree fell on wires on Lynn Drive Monday.

MONROE, CT — Police Chief Keith White, who also serves as the town’s emergency management director, said a total of 19 locations were affected by downed trees, branches and wires amid a rain and windstorm Monday.

“There were 19 locations where the road was partially or completely blocked,” he said in a telephone interview just before 2 p.m.

White said Eversource and public works crews cleared 10 of them and are still working throughout the town.

Currently, 849 Eversource customers are without power in town. Earlier this morning that number had topped 1,000.

“We have four Eversource crews working here in town,” White said.

Crews are assigned to Old Tannery, Garder, Bagburn and Hammertown roads.

The chief said the biggest impact was on Hammertown, near Fan Hill Road, which was completely closed when a felled tree ripped down wires and blocked the road.
