MONROE, CT — Ryan Frate, now 5, wore a look of sheer joy on his face, while jumping into the cool water of the Wolfe Park Pool last summer. The moment is frozen in time in a family photo, which was the winning entry in Monroe Parks and Recreation’s Spring Spirit photo contest Tuesday.
Ryan won a $25 gift certificate for parks and recreation programs. Other cards will be awarded for winning photos of different themes every day through Friday.
Missy Orosz, the parks and recreation director, and Lea Clark, the new recreation supervisor, reviewed eight contest entries, before choosing the photo of Ryan Frate.
“We had great entries, but this one spoke to us,” Orosz said, “a young kid, smiling and carefree, jumping. I feel we want to get back to that lifestyle of no worries, enjoying yourself in the Wolfe Park Pool.”
Today’s theme is memories of taking a walk on the Rails to Trails path at Wolfe Park or of camping at Webb Mountain Park. There is still time to participate. Photos can be submitted until 8 p.m.
As the contest is held throughout the week, entries should be emailed to [email protected] or posted on the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page. The deadline is 8 p.m. each night. Then Orosz and Clark will pick a winning photo by noon the following day.
The contest will capture moments throughout the week.
On Wednesday, the topic is a memory of participating in a Family Character Dinner Night at Great Hollow Lake from the summer months.
On Thursday, participants will share a photo of a memory of them playing a sport in one of the town’s leagues or in a sport that uses Wolfe Park.
The last day is Friday, when participants will share a photo from their memory of attending one of the Arts in the Park Concerts.
