Rounds of mini golf will raise money for Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

A miniature golf fundraiser in support of the Friends of the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library is set for Sunday, Nov. 3.  A fun-filled 18-hole course will be erected inside the library building.

The course will thread through both floors of the library, among the stacks and in open spaces. A whimsical array of golf greens, sponsored and decorated by 18 local interests will offer an engaging test for all skill levels. Putters and balls are provided.

Funding from the event supports equipment and programming for the library’s new co-op and makerspace.

“A generous grant from the Monroe Lions Club to the Friends is funding a large portion of the cost of the new community creative space,” said Lorraine Riedel, president of the Friends of the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, a nonprofit organization.

“However, additional funds are needed to cover on-going expenses for materials, activities and programming,” she added. “The new space, which opens the day before the mini-golf event, will have a Cricut die-cutting machine, a laser cutter, a photo and slide scanner, an embroidery machine and more.”

The benefit, to be held from noon to 4 p.m., is billed as a family-oriented outing for all ages with ticket basket drawings and a food truck. It costs $5 to play and $20 for a family of five. No library services will be available during the event.

Tickets for the mini-golf fundraiser are available in advance at Monroe branches of the Newtown Savings Bank, the library, and at the door Nov. 3. For information, call the library at 203-452-2850. Edith Wheeler Memorial Library is located at 733 Monroe Turnpike.

Newtown Savings Bank of Monroe partnered with Friends as the title sponsor.
