MONROE, CT — A storm bringing heavy winds and rain knocked out power to 897 Monroe Eversource customers, according to the power company’s outage map, accounting for just over 11 percent of its 8,110 town customers as of 1:12 p.m. Monday.

“We’re still taking on damage and outages as the storm is not over yet,” Tricia Modifica, a spokesperson for Eversource, told The Sun in an email exchange. “We do not have estimated time of restoration for any town/community at this point.”

Police Lt. Michael Sweeney said public works and Eversource have been working together to clear roads from downed trees and fallen branches.

A crew is working on Fan Hill Road, near Hammertown Road, but the road is passable, he said.

Spring Hill Road is closed near Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike).

“Huntingtown Road may be impassable,” Sweeney said, adding crews are also working on Elm Street and Guinea Road.

Update: At 1:24 p.m., Sweeney said Spring Hill Road will be cleared shortly.
