Police Reports: Thieves, crashes and a DUI

Honda hits a tree

A Danbury man was driving a Honda Accord on Main Street early Sunday morning when his car slid off the road and crashed into a tree.

Police said Kolby Alexander Sinclair, 19, of Danbury, and his passenger Kenniel Oliveira, 19, were both taken to Danbury Hospital for injuries caused by the airbags deploying.

Sinclair was issued an infraction for driving too fast for conditions.

The crash occurred in the 470-block of Main Street around 3:20 a.m.

Asleep at the wheel, DUI arrest

A Pittsburgh man was charged with driving under the influence after police say officers found him asleep at the wheel of his 2007 Infinity, which was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Victoria Drive and Main Street with its engine running Sunday morning.

An officer woke up the 38-year-old man, who appeared confused, and asked him to participate in field sobriety tests after the odor of alcohol was detected from inside the vehicle, according to the report.

His performance on the field sobriety tests led to his arrest and he was released on $500 bond for a Dec. 3 court date.

Police said the driver was also charged with failure to obey a traffic signal, because he did not drive when the light turned green. The incident occurred around 4 a.m.

Thieves enter vehicles on Osborn Lane

Police responded to reports of two unlocked vehicles entered on Osborn Lane Sunday.

A woman told police she believes someone rummaged through her vehicle, though nothing appeared to be missing.

A second resident told police someone may have taken a few dollars from inside his vehicle.

Both incidents occurred sometime overnight.

Crash on Route 111

Jacob Burnett, 22, of New Haven, pulled out of the Masuk High School driveway to turn left onto Monroe Turnpike, when his Kia Optima was hit by a Ford pickup truck heading north Saturday morning, according to police.

Police said the Kia then went off the side of the road and hit a utility pole, causing minor damage.

The Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service evaluated Burnett and his passenger at the scene, before taking them to Bridgeport Hospital for further evaluation of injuries.

Police said the other driver, Antonio Sanzo, 58, of Monroe, told officers he was not hurt.

Burnett was issued a warning for a stop sign violation, police said.

The crash occurred around 11:11 a.m.

A two-vehicle-crash

A Danbury man was heading west on Route 110 in his Toyota Rav4 Saturday afternoon and attempted to turn left into a residential driveway, crossing the center line before being struck by a Hyundai Elantra heading east.

Brian Catey, 18, of Danbury, was issued an infraction for making an improper turn.

Police said Monroe EMS took the driver of the Hyundai, Carlos Lopez, 27, of Monroe, to an area hospital to evaluate him for injuries. Lopez told officers he was just driving down 110 when a vehicle suddenly turned into his lane, according to the report.

The crash occurred near Hillside Lane around 12:22 p.m.
