Parks and Recreation has programs for swimming, diving, floor hockey and more

Monroe Parks and Recreation released information about the Masuk Pool and its programs, including a new floor hockey program. For information and registration, visit the department website. Spots for all programs are on a first-come-first-served basis and some programs may be cancelled if not enough people register for it.

Masuk Pool – December

Open swim during December at Masuk Pool, 1014 Monroe Turnpike, is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday afternoons. The pool will be closed  Dec 7 and from Dec. 23 to 31.

The schedule may change due to school closings and usage, check the department website and information/cancellation line 203-339-6106 for updates.

Masuk Pool memberships are sold at the pool during open swim times. Membership Fees are as follows: adults (age 18-59) $50 for residents and $100 for non-residents, a children (age 3-17) $40 for residents and $80 for non-residents, seniors (age 60-plus) $20 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Daily fees for non-members (ages 3 and older) are $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Payment for membership or daily fees is by cash or check only.

 Pool parties

Pool parties are held on Friday evenings (6:30-8:15 p.m.) and Saturday afternoons (2-3:45 p.m.). Parties must be booked on-line at www.monroerec.org.

There is a maximum of 50 people per group with up to two groups booked each date – this includes all children and adults staying for the event. Ideal for scouts, youth groups, sports teams and birthday parties.

December pool party dates are Fridays, Dec 6 and 20, and Saturdays, Dec 14 and 21.  Fees are $175 for residents and $200 for non-residents.

Floor Hockey
In conjunction with CT Sports Network, Parks and Rec will offer a new floor hockey program for youth in kindergarten through grade 8.

Players will learn a popular sport in a fun and enjoyable environment. Along with individual development, players will also learn teamwork and rules. Staff will strive to provide the best experience for each player, while teaching the fundamentals of floor hockey.

The program held Friday nights, Jan. 10 through Feb. 7, in the Monroe Elementary School gym, 375 Monroe Turnpike. Session 1A for kindergartners through third graders will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Session 1B for grades four through eight will be from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. The fees are $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents.

ArtSmart! Studio – Friday Night Art Escape (ages 10-14)

This workshop series provide a great opportunity to socialize in a nurturing setting with other creative minds and offers sophisticated projects sure to please.

It meets Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13 for holiday crafting. Fees per workshop are $42 for residents and $52 for non-residents. All ArtSmart classes held at ArtSmart! Studio, 152 Lynn Drive, Monroe.

Youth Diving Lessons

Come and learn the basics of springboard diving!  This is a great class for aspiring divers to develop all the dives needed to compete on area middle school and high school teams.  Program consists of six lessons for grades 4 through 12.  Lessons are on Mondays evenings, 6:30-7:30 pm at Masuk High School Pool, 1014 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe.  Session 2:  Jan 13-Mar 2 (no 1/20 & 2/17). Fees:  $75 res/$85 non-res.

Youth Swim Lessons (ages 4+)

The American Red Cross offers a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate swimming and water safety program that teaches you, your child or other family members how to swim skillfully and safely, and think and act safely in, on and around the water. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisites.  A swim placement level guide can be found on our website.  Session 3:  Mondays, Jan 13–Feb 24;  registration deadline Jan 6.  Times:  Level 1 and 2, 6:15-6:45 pm or 6:45-7:15 pm.  Level 3:  7:15-8:00 pm.  Level 4 and 5:  8:00-8:45 pm.  Fees:  Level 1 and 2 $60 resident/$70 non-resident; Level 3 and higher:  $70 resident/$80 non-resident.  

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult swim lessons are offered on Monday nights at Masuk Pool.  Our swim instructors will help adults develop valuable skills and a lifetime love of the water, while instilling responsibility and safety instruction.   Classes will meet for 60 minutes per lesson once a week for five weeks from 7:00-8:00 pm.  Session 3:  Jan 13-Feb 24, registration deadline Jan 6.  Fees:  $70 res/$80 non-res.

Monroe Parks and Recreation programs operate on a self-sustaining basis. Revenue earned goes back to the community to develop new offerings and maintains affordability of existing programs.
