Panthers make a splash in state Class M meet

NEW HAVEN, CT — Masuk High’s girls swimming and diving team competed in the Class M State Championships. The diving competition was held Nov. 10 in Middletown and the swimming events took place Nov. 14 at Southern Connecticut State University. The Panthers placed 11th with 231 points and had numerous season-best times between the Nov. 11 trials and the finals.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Eva Helmke, Lucia Morales, Juliette Eaton and Yara Shaik came in 11th with a time of 1:59.56.

Helmke was fourth in the 50 freestyle race in 25.02. In the 100 butterfly race, Eaton was 16th in 1:07.62. Helmke placed fifth in the 100 free with a time of 54.94, and Morales was 18th in the 100 in 58.83. In the 500, Skye Eanotti placed 22nd in 5:54.71.

Masuk’s 200 free relay of Helmke, Shaik, Eaton and Morales was ninth in 1:47.76.

In the 100 backstroke race, Shaik came in 22nd in 1:11.06, Morales placed 13th in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:15.05.

The 400 free relay of Abigail Kirberger, Tierney McGunnigle, Emily Hull and Eanotti was 17th in 4:38.03.

In diving, Kate Wittenauer was third with a score of 347.90, Carly Jordan sixth with a 329.95 and Caroline Wittenauer 18th with a 243.50.
