VFW recognizes Monroe Elementary School counselor for patriotic display

MONROE, CT — A beautiful poppy display adorns the front lawn of Monroe Elementary School every Memorial Day. The flower symbolizes those who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom in U.S. military conflicts over the years. Monroe Elementary’s display is dedicated in memory of William Ayles, a Monroe resident who served as past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10059. MONROE, CT — A late, tie-breaking goal propelled the Masuk High boys lacrosse team to an exciting 7-6 season-opening win over visiting Newington on Saturday. A.J. Cavanaugh took a pass from Cole Henderson and deposited the game-winner with 3:34 remaining. Henderson and Andrew Picci both recorded hat-tricks to help lead the offense.
