Monroe police respond to rollover crash on Cutlers Farm, 4-vehicle-crash on 25

MONROE, CT — A 29-year-old Trumbull man escaped serious injury after being involved in a rollover accident in his 2006 Ford Econoline at the intersection of Purdy Hill and Cutlers Farm roads Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9:28 a.m., police said the man was heading east on Purdy Hill, when he turned right onto Cutlers Farm. That’s when his passenger side tires went off the roadway, the van went over the curb and struck a stonewall on a Cutlers Farm Road property, making the van turn onto its left side, according to the report.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated the driver for injuries, but he declined a trip to the hospital, police said.

He was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane and driving without a license and his van was towed due to disabling damage.

Infractions, one arrest

A 29-year -old Newtown man allegedly caused a four-vehicle-crash on Main Street on Sept. 21, when he crossed over the double yellow center lines in his 2005 Mini Cooper while heading north and struck a 2013 Chevy Express Van in the south lane.

Moments before the crash, a witness called police to report a Mini Cooper being driven erratically, swerving into the other lane, but responding officers could not get to the scene before the accident.

Police said the Mini Cooper spun upon impact, before hitting a 2010 Hyundai Sonata that was being driven behind the Chevy Express Van.

The Chevy also spun, before hitting a guardrail, then a 2015 Subaru Forester that was behind the Mini Cooper in the north lane.

Monroe EMS personnel arrived on the scene to evaluate the drivers, but there were no requests for further treatment, according to police.

Town firefighters also responded to the emergency call on Main Street (Route 25), south of Brook Street, which came in around 4:54 p.m.

The Newtown man was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane and failure to renew his registration.

The driver of the Chevy, a 39-year-old New Haven man, was charged with driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license and misuse of plates.

Both the Mini Cooper and the Chevy were towed due to disabling damage.

No action was taken against the 65-year-old Bridgeport woman, who drove the Subaru Forester, nor the 31-year-old Newtown man, who drove the Sonata.
