Monroe Police Reports: Shoplifting arrest, falling trees …

MONROE, CT — A postive I.D. of surveillance video led to the arrest of a 28-year-old East Haven man for allegedly shoplifting from Stop & Shop, 470 Monroe Turnpike, on June 19.

He turned himself in on a warrant Saturday. Police said he has been linked to similar larcenies in the region.

On June 19, store video showed a White male and a White female steal 10 Tide Pod laundry detergent containers and other items, totaling at close to $285, police said.

Monroe detectives identified the male suspect after reviewing video and photos and applied for an arrest warrant.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny and released on $50o bond for an Aug. 7 court date.

Traffic violations

A 31-year-old Danbury man was cited for driving with a suspended license, no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle early Saturday morning after police pulled over his 2010 Honda Accord in the 780-block of Main Street.

Falling trees

MONROE, CT — Police received calls about 14 downed trees in town from Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

Among the incidents were:

A tree and wires down in the 120-block of Hammertown Road at 7:54 p.m. Saturday.

A tree town on Route 59, near the Easton town line, at 7:56 p.m. Saturday.

A tree down causing a partial road closure on Route 25 (Main Street) and Bart Road at 8:22 p.m. on Saturday.

A tree with wires down at East Village and Webb Circle at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

A tree down in the 40-block of Winthrop Place at 8:39 p.m. Saturday.

A tree down at Flint Ridge and Scenic Hill Lane at 8:46 p.m. Saturday.

A tree across the roadway in the 80-block of Fan Hill Road at 8:53 p.m., causing a partial road closure Saturday.

A tree down at East Village and Barn Hill roads at 8:55 p.m. Saturday.

A tree or tree limb down on Route 110, near the Shelton town line, at 9:36 p.m.

A tree or limb against wires at the intersection of Jockey Hollow Road and West Maiden Lane at 9:52 p.m. Saturday.

A tree fell on a property, tearing the primary wires from a home in the 690-block of Main Street at 10:12 p.m. Saturday.

A tree down in the roadway blocking one lane on Applegate Lane at 11:13 p.m. Saturday.

A tree down partially blocking one lane in the 60-block of Indian Ledge Road at 4:04 a.m. Sunday. The Monroe Department of Public Works responded with a chainsaw.

A tree blocking the roadway in the 170-block of Purdy Hill Road was moved to the shoulder at 10:43 a.m. Sunday.

Unemployment benefits scam

Police received one complaint Saturday from a resident victimized by a scam, in which someone fraudulently applied for unemployment benefits from the Connecticut Department of Labor using their names and information.

The victim was advised to contact the three major credit bureaus, to monitor his financial accounts and to report the incident to the Labor Department and the Social Security Administration.
