MONROE, CT — Police responded to complaints of two stolen vehicles and numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Hidden Knolls and Northbrook condominium complexes last Friday.
On Friday morning, a Cascade Circle man reported his 2022 Nissan Altima stolen when it was parked in front of his residence at Northbrook. Police said the car had been left unlocked with the keys inside.
Later that day, a Monroe detective was notified by the Naugatuck Police Department that the Nissan was recovered in their town. Monroe detectives went to Naugatuck and processed the vehicle for evidence and found items stolen from other town vehicles inside, according to the report.
Police Lt. Kevin McKellick said a total of four vehicles were entered and cards and forms of identification were among the items stolen, including a Triple-A card, a credit card and a Mohegan Sun rewards card.
At 8:40 a.m. Friday, a Hidden Knolls Circle woman reported the theft of her Kia Sportage sometime overnight. Police said the vehicle was unlocked, but the victim told officers the keys were not inside.
The stolen vehicle has not yet been recovered and police are investigating the theft.
A stolen generator
Benedict’s Home & Garden, 480 Purdy Hill Road, reported the theft of a $900 Generac generator Friday afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m., an employee told police he was working outside, when a white Nissan Altima parked in a space close to the loading dock. A man got out of the car and the employee told officers he saw him again moments later, carrying a generator under his arm.
The man placed the generator in the Nissan and left.
Then the employee went inside the garden center to ask if the man paid for the generator, but the clerk said no one had purchased it.
Police are investigating the theft.
Road rage
A 72-year-old Monroe man was charged with breach of peace and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle following a road rage incident reported Friday afternoon.
At approximately 4:31 p.m., a woman told police she was driving on Bagburn Road when she observed two drivers standing outside their vehicles, while arguing in roadway.
The Monroe man allegedly had a baton in his hand and charged at the other driver, though he did not strike him, according to police. The witness told officers the Monroe man got back into his truck and drove away, nearly hitting her vehicle as he left.
Officers investigating the incident determined there had been a disagreement between the two men over who should have stopped at the stop sign, which escalated into a confrontation. Police said no one was struck.
The Monroe man was released on $5,000 bond for a June 13 court date.
