Into the reservoir

A 35-year-old Bridgeport man escaped injury when his black Chevrolet Impala swerved off the right side of Main Street, near Knollwood Street, struck a guardrail, and continued for about 30 feet, before coming to rest in the reservoir early Sunday morning.

The driver told officers he was heading north when he swerved to avoid a deer, according to the report.

Police said the man did not claim to have any injuries and declined a trip to the hospital. He was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to maintain the proper lane.

Town firefighters, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Connecticut Department of Transportation also responded to the incident in the event of any fluid leaks.

Aquarion Water Co., which owns the reservoir, was also notified.
