MONROE, CT — Police identified the person, whose body was found beneath the water at the base of Stevenson Dam Monday afternoon, as a 31-year-old Monroe man.
“His family has been notified,” Lt. Kevin McKellick said Tuesday. “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to him being in the water.”
At 3:18 p.m. on Monday, police officers responded to a call about someone in distress in the water below the dam. A short time later, a diving camera confirmed a body underneath the water at the base of the dam.
Local dive teams worked together to recover the body. The OCME has been notified, police said.
Among those responding to the emergency call were the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, Connecticut State Police, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Newtown’s Water Rescue Team and the Monroe/Trumbull Dive team.
