Monroe Police: Drunk driver crashes into utility pole on Purdy Hill Road

MONROE, CT — A 26-year-old Trumbull woman was charged with DUI after crashing her gray Tesla into a utility police in the 250-block of Purdy Hill Road early Saturday morning.

Officers responding to the call around 3:23 a.m. found the driver standing next to her car. She said she was not injured, according to police.

Police said the odor of an alcoholic beverage was on her, she was unsteady on her feet and had admitted to being intoxicated.

Field sobriety tests determined she was under the influence, leading to her arrest, police said, adding her blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit.

The driver was charged with DUI and failure to maintain the proper lane. She was released after posting 10 percent of her $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 12.

Police said the utility pole sustained significant damage and the Tesla, which had heavy front-end damage, was towed.

Stolen cash, credit cards

A 53-year-old Far Horizon Drive woman told police someone stole her credit card and tried to make an unauthorized $1,414 purchase at Macy’s in Danbury, according to a complaint filed on Oct. 21.

She learned of the fraud via a text from Bank of America’s fraud department, which also told her the transaction was declined, police said.

Prior to the incident, the victim, who is an artist, invited a woman to her home to make the final payment for a painting. She told officers the customer gave her $100 cash.

When she walked into another room to put the money in her wallet, the customer followed her, police said. The artist told officers the other woman did not immediately follow her out afterward.

A short while later, she went to a bank to deposit the money and noticed the $100 was missing from her wallet, along with multiple credit cards, according to the report.

The Monroe Police Detective Division is investigating the incident.

Theft from a vehicle

A Jays Road woman reported the theft of her wallet from her unlocked vehicle when it was parked in her driveway.

On Friday morning she reportedly told officers she noticed the theft on Wednesday and believes it occurred on Monday or Tuesday.

The wallet contained $20 cash and a credit card. On Thursday night she learned there was a fraudulent charge made at a gas station in Waterbury. She has since canceled the card and was advised to monitor her credit.
