MONROE, CT — Dive teams recovered a body beneath the water at the base of Stevenson Dam Monday afternoon.
“We have not yet identified the individual or notified the next of kin,” Police Lt. Kevin McKellick said in a news release. “The Monroe Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to this event.”
At 3:18 p.m., Monroe police officers responded to a call about someone in distress in the water below the dam. A short time later, a diving camera confirmed a body underneath the water at the base of the dam.
Local dive teams worked together to recover the body. The OCME has been notified, police said.
Among those responding to the emergency call were the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, Connecticut State Police, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Newtown’s Water Rescue Team and the Monroe/Trumbull Dive team.
