MONROE, CT — A traffic stop at the intersection of routes 111 and 25 in Trumbull turned into arrests of four burglary suspects, who allegedly stole about $5,650 worth of scrap metal and pipes from Production Metals, 421 Old Zoar Road in Monroe, early Saturday morning.
Four occupants in the gray 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was pulled over around 5:14 a.m. reportedly admitted to the theft and Trumbull officers contacted the Monroe Police Department, whose officers investigated the burglary, police said.
Monroe police contacted a representative from Production Metals, who confirmed several metal items had been stolen, and security footage showed the Jeep in the early morning hours, according to the report.
One of the suspects, Edgar Crespo, 33, of Bridgeport, a former employee of the company, was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and criminal trespass. He was released on $2,000 bond for a Dec. 30 court date.
The other three suspects, who are all from Bridgeport, were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and have the same court date.
Gregory Louis, 35, was held on $1,000 bond, Vilma Guzman, 26, was released on $1,000 bond and Denisse Torres, 38, was released on a written promise to appear in court.
Motorcycle crash
A 23-year-old Trumbull woman was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center after being involved in a crash on her 2014 Kawasaki EX 330 on Monroe Turnpike on Dec. 18.
At approximately 12:16 p.m., she was riding her motorcycle north on Route 111, when an 84-year-old Monroe woman pulled out of her driveway in her gray 2013 Ford Focus, according to police.
The Monroe woman told police there was a glare from the sun as she was turning left onto Route 111 and that she sped up to avoid a collision when she saw the motorcycle.
The Trumbull woman told police she tried to avoid the Ford Focus, but couldn’t before hitting the back of it.
The Monroe driver, who was not injured, was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a private road or driveway, police said.
The Trumbull woman was treated my Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel at the scene, before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Stolen GPS unit
A $700 Garmin Overland GPS was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Hattertown Road sometime between Dec. 15 and 19, A couple reported the theft on Saturday morning.
