Monroe Memorial Day Parade traffic advisory, line of march

MONROE, CT — Police remind drivers that roads surrounding the Memorial Day Parade route will be closed at 12:30 p.m. this Sunday.

No traffic will be allowed in either direction on Monroe Turnpike between the Town Green and the Monroe Turnpike/Elm Street intersection. All side streets and shopping plazas will also be blocked, preventing vehicles from entering onto the parade route.

“Please plan your activities in advance to avoid getting stuck on the day of the parade,” Lt. Kevin McKellick said.

The M&T Bank Mile Down the Pike road race will be begin at 12:30, followed by the parade at 1 p.m. The procession will start at the intersection with Elm Street and move up Route 111 to the Town Green, where a Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held.

“Please join us at this community event to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation,” Monroe police said in a news release.
