Monroe man charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a child

MONROE, CT — A local man turned himself in on a warrant Wednesday with charges stemming from a shooting incident in the backyard of a home on School Street on Sept. 20.

Bryan Roberts, 52, was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a child and tampering with a witness. He was released after posting seven percent of his $50,000 cash bond for a Nov. 14 court date in Bridgeport.

On Sept. 27, a man came into police headquarters to file a complaint after colleagues told him about a sleepover his son had at his ex-wife’s house on School Street on Sept. 20.

A man at the house, later identified as Roberts, and the ex-wife got into an argument and Roberts, who seemed intoxicated, according to reports, allegedly fired a handgun in the direction of a fence post two juveniles were standing near, police said.

Officers and detectives interviewed the parties involved to determine the sequence of what took place and police said the complainant’s ex-wife gave consent for detectives to search her property. Police said they found a 9-mm shell casing in the backyard, near the area of the fence post as described.

Detectives applied for the arrest warrant, which was signed on Nov. 5.
