Monroe Lions football teams poised for a strong finish

A 49-22 blowout at home improved the Monroe Lions seventh graders’ record to a perfect 4-0 at the midway point to the 2019 American Youth Football season. They are in first place in the Shoreline League and join the third grade Lions in being undefeated so far.

The fourth grade team beat Guilford 20-13 in a home victory last weekend to improve to 3-1 on the season.

After losing a heartbreaker to Guilford the week before, the Lions’ eighth graders fell to 2-2 with a 46-16 loss to Wallingford.

The fifth graders lost to Bristol 39-7 and the sixth-graders lost to Shelton 33-0. Both teams are 1-3 at the midpoint of the season.

All are welcome to cheer the Lions on when they take the field this Sunday, Oct. 5, for four games at Wolfe Park on Oct. 5. Kickoff for the third grade is at 9 a.m., followed by the fourth grade at 11 a.m., the sixth grade at 1 p.m. and the eighth grade at 3 p.m.
