Monroe Food Pantry’s Wiffle Ball tournament seeks teams to strike out hunger

It’s time for Wiffle Ball players to break out their plastic bats, loosen up their pitching arms and practice their curve balls and sinkers. The Monroe Food Pantry’s fourth annual Wiffle® Ball Fun Day is coming to Wolfe Park on Saturday, June 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, June 18.

The day will consist of tournament play and contests for the longest hit and pitching accuracy, while money is raised and food donations are collected to assist local families in need.

The Monroe Food Pantry, which is part of the Department of Community and Social Services, helps residents dealing with food insecurity. In 2022 the pantry assisted 149 families, 183 adults, 128 children and 96 seniors. Over 77,000 pounds of food was distributed which calculates to over 84,000 meals.

The Monroe Food Pantry relies on the generosity of the Monroe community through food drives and donations of both food and money.

The Wiffle Ball tournament is sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and Jensen Tire & Auto Marine LLC.
