Monroe Elementary music students’ special recording honors veterans

Alyson O'Grady's fourth grade music students continued Monroe Elementary School's tradition of honoring veterans by recording a song, along with a slideshow presentation.

MONROE, CT — Monroe Elementary School music teacher Alyson O’Grady’s fourth graders recorded the song, “This is America,” to honor veterans in the community on Veterans Day.

The COVID-19 pandemic does not make a live performance possible this year, so students followed health guidelines, including social distancing, wearing face coverings and ventilation, while making the recording to share with families.

“This year, while it looks different, the message is the same — we value and honor our veterans’ service and sacrifice,” O’Grady said.

The video and slideshow was made with the help of the fourth grade classroom teachers and the Monroe Technology Department. To hear the song and watch the slideshow presentation on Google Docs, click here.
