Monroe Business Appreciation Day features prizes, discounts

MONROE, Conn. — Shoppers can pick up a passport on Saturday, March 14, and have it stamped at participating town businesses to receive discounts and the chance to win raffle prizes on Monroe Business Appreciation Day.

The passports can then be turned in for the chance to win grand prizes from the Monroe Economic Development Commission, which is sponsoring the St. Patrick’s Day themed event.

“Our goal is to try to feature the wonderful, diverse businesses we have in town, including our restaurants,” EDC Chairman Raymond Giovanni said.

He said all types of businesses were asked to participate in Monroe Business Appreciation Day, from retail stores and restaurants to medical practices. More than 50 are signed up so far, and the list is still growing.

A bouquet of green balloons will be placed in front of each participating business on March 14. Downloadable passports will be available on the EDC website.

All a business needs to participate is to donate a raffle prize ranging from gift certificates to products and services. A stack of green St. Patrick’s Day hats is in Giovanni’s office at Union Savings Bank. He said winning raffle tickets will be drawn from them.

Customers can win something right away after having their passport stamped at a local business. For example, Giovanni said Dairy Queen will raffle off ice cream cakes.

Monroe Social, Thai Berry Kitchen and McGowan’s Pizzaland have already donated gift certificates for the EDC to award as grand prizes.

For information, visit the Monroe Economic Development Commission’s website or Facebook page.

Businesses wishing to participate should send an email to [email protected] by March 1.
