Masuk’s defending state champ girls lacrosse team is back at it

Masuk High players celebrate winning the state title last spring. The Panthers will look to repeat this year.

MONROE, CT — Coming off a Class L State Championship in 2024, Masuk High’s girls lacrosse team is looking to repeat and contend for a South-West Conference title along the way.

Captains are attack players Jill Kilcullen and Grace LaGuardia as well as defender Sara O’Connor.

Other key players include juniors: midfielder Bailey Bajda (2024 All Conference SWC and First Team All State); attack/midfielder Charlotte Pinto (2024 All Division SWC, Second Team All State); and defender Abby Troesser (2024 All SWC, Second Team All State).

Defense and draw control are strengths of this team, Coach Rob Troesser said.

The Panthers stand to have tough challenges from SWC rivals Newtown (April 17) and New Fairfield (May 11), as well as nonconference foes Simsbury (April 12), Daniel Hand (April 19), Staples (May 2), Fairfield Ludlowe (May 13) and Amity (May 16).

Masuk’s season began with a 17-0 home win over Notre Dame Prep on Tuesday. The Panthers had a dozen players register at least a goal.

Eve Fernandez and Pinto both scored three times to lead the attack.

All three goalies — Maddie Farrer (first half), Parker Connolly (third period) and Liv Augustine (fourth period) — combined for the shutout.
